And so the World Cup playoffs come to an end. And it must be said, we feel like football’s version of Jonah and the Whale. Every team we threw our full-throated support behind — Cuddly New Zealand, Resolute Iceland, Swarthy Sweden, Pragmatic Ukraine, Slightly Dodgy Jordan, and Bob Bradley’s noble Egypt — have been put to the sword. We feel both partly responsible and very sad. And not just because we put a 7 bitcoin bet on them all making it. But football needs its fairytales and in this World Cup qualifying process, Cinderella took quite a beating.
